Powering a Greener Future: How REGO-Certified Electricity Supports Our MicronGreen Commitment

As part of our MicronGreen initiative, we are taking meaningful steps toward reducing our environmental impact, with a strong focus on how and where we source the energy that powers our operations.
A major pillar of our sustainability journey is responsible procurement, the choices we make every day about our supply chain and energy sources. In 2024, we renewed our electricity supply contract with a clear priority: reduce the carbon emissions associated with our energy usage. That’s why we’ve committed to sourcing REGO-certified electricity with a certificate valid until March 2026, procuring 100% renewable electricity across all of our sites.
What is REGO-Certified Electricity?
REGO stands for Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin, a UK certification scheme that verifies electricity has been generated from renewable sources like wind, solar, and hydro. For every unit of green electricity added to the grid, a REGO certificate is issued. By purchasing REGO-backed electricity, at Micronclean we ensure that an equivalent amount of renewable energy has entered the national grid on our behalf.
This means that our electricity is not only reliable, it's traceable to renewable generation. It's a powerful way to support the UK’s green energy transition while reducing our own Scope 2 emissions. The procurement of REGO ensures that the business produces zero scope 2 emissions.
Why REGO and Sustainable Sourcing Matters To Us:
Switching to REGO-certified electricity significantly reduces the carbon intensity of the power we use across our sites. It's a critical step forward in achieving our ambitious 2025 target: to reduce our carbon emissions by 25% compared to our 2021 baseline.
By using REGO-backed electricity, we are lowering our impact without compromising performance, and doing so in a way that’s transparent and accountable to our stakeholders.
Looking beyond REGO. Our Responsible Procurement and Energy Usage:
Our commitment to decarbonisation goes beyond electricity. In 2025, we have implemented the transition to low-emission HVO fuels in our logistics fleet, another high-impact area of our operations. Combined with REGO-certified electricity, this will be a major milestone on our path to our 2025 carbon reduction goal.
We’re further supporting our commitment to renewable energy via the generation of solar energy at our Louth site. Within it’s first full operational year our rooftop solar panels generated a substantial 20% of the site’s electricity.
We are also actively exploring additional procurement opportunities to further reduce our footprint whether that's through energy efficiency, greener inputs, or innovative new technologies.
