Cleanroom Consumables - Michelle Simpson BlogCleanroom13.07.2021

Meet Michelle Simpson, a member of the Micronclean family who has been involved with our Consumables range since the beginning.

What is your role within Micronclean?

Associate Director and Group Product Manager (GPM)

I joined the business as a Trainee Manager and have worked in many areas of the business. This has helped build up my knowledge base as well as fully understand how the business operates. My past roles have been varied and ranged from Quality to Sales, I have a good understanding of the market place and have periodically been involved with the Consumables division since it started and been part of the successful growth of it. I have the opportunity as Associate Director to be influential in driving the business forward towards our 2027 Vision in which we envisage substantial growth in our Consumables business.

What is the purpose of a GPM?

  • Set the strategic direction
  • To create a unique, differentiated product portfolio to a defined market
  • To protect the portfolio by Intellectual Property
  • To grow the turnover and margin of the Consumables business

As the Group Product Manager I am responsible for the strategy for Consumables and working with all internal departments to deliver this. Our product range is constantly under review and being improved. Understanding the market place and customer requirements is an essential part of the role as well as working with R&D to develop and launch new innovative products to complement our existing range.

Have you seen many changes with Micronclean’s Consumables over the years?

Our Consumables business is relatively young in comparison to the textile business. The business was kick-started by working closely with some key Micronclean garment customers and products developed for their specific requirements. In 2013 we acquired Guardline Technology which gave us the opportunity to expand our product offering under the Micronclean brand. Further to this we extended the product range that we manufacture in-house specifically alcohol trigger sprays, pre-saturated wipes and disinfectants.

The Guardline acquisition also brought to us our first export customers. This has become strategically important to us and we now export to over 40 different countries.

Customer have more choices now, there are more suppliers offering Cleanroom consumables, although still a limited number of strong brands of which Micronclean is one.

How do you see Consumables developing in the future?

Consumables is a key area of growth for the business to achieve our 2027 Vision. In the UK we are a well-respected Cleanroom garment provider and our Consumables product offering complements this; our brand is becoming increasingly known for our wider offering. We will continue to extend our product range in-line with the current offering to allow us to supply the complete solution whilst developing innovative products and unique features.

Our Export division is focussed on selecting the “right” distributors and selling our Micronclean branded products across the world, replicating the successes of the UK on a larger scale.
