Continuous Improvement: Training Within Industry

Continuous Improvement: Training Within Industry 20.09.2022

As one of our main business focuses we are training out the Training Within Industry (TWI) method to all staff, creating a standardised approach across the business.

The TWI training was very tired and linked back to old industries, so we as a team asked if we could "micronise" it. This would give a better understanding to our delegates we have made sure that the examples with the training are relatable to Micronclean's processes.

In the past the main constraint would be time, but with this training method from the offset it is apparent that time is used more effectively, minimising re-working and retraining. Given a trained vs. non-trained scenario, a worker who has had 20 minutes of training before they're put on a station/process, whereas the one without the training then caused 50 rejects - there is then a complaint log to go through, transport collecting the rejects, staff re-working the 50 rejects and that's without the required admin being done in the background. The resulting impact of not giving that original 20 minutes is huge, not only on the company personnel but also the customer.

That's why our mantra with the Continuous Improvement team is to let people know – "If the Worker Hasn't Learned, the Instructor Hasn't Taught".
