Microngreen - Past, Present and Future

Microngreen - Past, Present and Future BlogSustainabilityMicronGreen01.10.2025

Microngreen has become a core part of Micronclean’s business since the launch of the strategy almost three years ago. As one of our key strategic objectives, it now shapes everyday decisions across the company, continuing to act as a catalyst and supported by dedicated teams across the business.

Caring for the environment has been part of the Fry’s family values for generations. Cedric Fry helped establish Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve and Donovan Fry supported further conservation efforts there directly using the profits from the business to develop the Fenland Wash. That legacy has shaped Micronclean chairman Simon Fry’s own approach to business, minimising environmental impact wherever possible.

Micronclean was the first laundry to achieve BS7750 - now ISO14001 in 1997 and we’ve managed our sites with biodiversity in mind. Whilst laundry is inherently circular, it is energy intensive. With our future sights set on delivering sustainable, energy efficient, solutions.

Since moving to 100% renewable electricity in 2023 and installing 200kW of solar panels on our Louth plant, we have also turned our focus to fleet decarbonisation through HVO fuel, whilst taking care to ensure sustainable procurement of 100% waste oil-derived. Packaging has also improved with the shift to brown boxes; increasing the ability to recycle our cardboard, however single-use plastic remains a major challenge that the R&D team are working to reduce, recycle and replace these materials wherever possible.

The people at Micronclean remain at the heart of our progress, of which engagement remains strong both within and outside the business. Highlights this year include the CLEAN award; working with local schools under the theme ‘Plastic Not Funtastic’ - earning us a Green Apple Gold award; winning the Medilink Midlands Business Award in sustainability; and our sponsorship of Louth Infinity Inclusive FC - a team for children and young people aged 5-16 with physical and learning disabilities.

Microngreen continues to be a solid foundation to power our change agenda. Whilst the progress is encouraging, future success requires ongoing focus and commitment to continue to deliver improvement to the environmental performance of Micronclean’s products, services and community wellbeing.
